Submissions will be judged based on 4 different categories, with 4 questions within each category (5 for the Evidence of positive engagement with the Industry category)
Category 1 – Evidence of positive engagement with the Industry (10 marks)
The judges are looking for the ways in which entrants are committed to supporting the EIS industry. This might include:
- Regular responses to consultation documents
- Support of EISA
- Promotion of EIS generally
- Support of industry-wide initiatives
- Thought leadership on the industry
- Diversity
Category 2 – Performance – Exits and existing Investment (10 marks)
The judges are looking for evidence on:
- Average length of time from investment to exit on all investments
- Number of EIS qualifying exits in the last year
- Average ROI, including charges and income tax relief across all investments made in the past 12 months unless specified
- ROI on exits made in the past year
Category 3 -Investor/Financial Planner relations (10 marks)
Please provide:
- Keeping investors/financial planners on the progress of applications/investments
- What support you provide investors/financial planners
Category 4 – Supporting the development of Smaller High Growth UK Companies (10 marks)
Please provide:
- How you choose companies for investment?
- How you support investee companies
- The economic benefit derived from your investee companies
- How Government changes to EIS have affected your investment philosophy

Submissions will be judged based on 3 different categories, with 2 questions within each category
The judges are looking for the best investment exit from an EIS or SEIS in 2018.
Clearly the return achieved will be important, but this is not the sole criteria. Submissions will be judged on responses to the questions below which cover these three categories
- Category 1 – Economic/Industry impact (10 marks)
- Category 2 – Investor return (10 marks)
- Category 3 – Positive role of the Fund Manager (10 marks)

6. Best Financial Planner – Sponsored by Guinness Asset Management
This award is for the best use of EIS/SEIS in a financial planning context.
The Judges are looking for case studies that highlight innovative and practical use of EIS/SEIS within wider financial planning solutions that deliver clear and demonstrable client outcomes both from an investment and tax viewpoint.
The entry should include:
- • Category 1 – A clear outline of the problem that the client is facing (10 marks)
• Category 2- The financial solution recommended (10 marks)
• Category 3 – The outcome for the client (10 marks)
7. Best Newcomer – sponsored by Downing
The criteria for this award are intentionally widely drawn.
Submissions will be judged based on 3 different categories, with 2 questions within each category
Designed to recognise quality and/or innovation from a newcomer to the EIS/SEIS market. The award is open to companies that have launched their first EIS/SEIS fund since mid- 2017, whether as an entirely new company, or an existing company that is launching an EIS or SEIS fund for the first time.
Judges will judge across 3 categories:
- Category 1 -Impact to date – performance, fundraising etc (10 marks)
- Category 2 – Evidence of innovation or a fresh approach (10 marks)
- Category 3 – Evidence of long term commitment to S/EIS industry (10 marks)

8. “Spirit of EIS” Sponsored by Deal Partners
The criteria for this award are intentionally widely drawn.
This award is designed to recognise a new initiative, a company or an individual that has made a difference in enhancing or growing the S/EIS industry. It could be in areas of communication, education, product development, investment…and more. It is open to every member of EISA, individual and company.
The Judges will judge across 3 categories:
- Category 1 – Philosophy (10 marks)
- Category 2 – Impact (10 marks)
- Category 3 – Achievement (10 marks)

9. Best EIS/SEIA Journalist – sponsored by Kuber Ventures
Reporters who have written about Enterprise and Seed Investment Schemes are in the running for a new award.
This award recognises the individual who, in the opinion of the judges, has made the greatest contribution to the awareness and understanding of EIS and SEIS during 2017.
The winning journalist will be invited to the award ceremony in the House of Lords on the evening of February 7, 2018.
Highly valued by the financial services industry, the EISA Awards recognise the very best practice in the EIS and Seed EIS market.
