Speakers:

Sarah Abrahams leads Grant Thornton’s national Growth Finance business, providing a range of support services to businesses seeking up to £10m in external finance and representing the firm in the early-stage investment community.

Valuation is always a difficult topic for companies and investors alike when putting an EIS deal together. Many companies really struggle to know even where to start, and what the motivations of a potential funder are.  Sarah will be sharing insight into how she is seeing both companies and investors approach this, and some suitable methods that can be used to reach a valuation point.

 


Alex Cochand joined Downing in 2016 and now heads up the Origination and Partnership functions for the investment team. His core focuses are on sourcing investment opportunities for the funds and growing their network to support the portfolio. Prior to joining Downing, he worked at Bluebox Corporate Finance where he advised a range of businesses on both fundraising and sale mandates.

 

 


Hugo de Stacpoole is responsible for the initial contact with businesses interested in using the Seedrs platform. He is always on the lookout for innovative and disruptive startups that are a good fit and suitable for equity crowdfunding. Having successfully founded a business before, he has first-hand experience of the rigors and challenges of successfully fundraising and he uses these skills to help entrepreneurs navigate the fundraising landscape.

 

 


Jon Gill is a Partner in the Corporate team and leads TLT’s focus on private equity and venture capital work, and M&A transactions in the Digital sector.  He is also responsible for TLT’s multi-disciplinary team that supports Fast Growth companies across their UK offices.

Jon has extensive M&A experience acting for international corporates on both acquisitions and strategic disposals. He also spent six months on secondment to Barclays Ventures, the private equity division of Barclays Bank, and has acted for the majority of the UK’s mid-market private equity houses on new investments, bolt-on acquisitions, restructurings and portfolio company realisations. Jon also frequently acts for management teams and entrepreneurs on PE and VC transactions.

Recent work includes advising Sussex Place Ventures on their investments in Kimble Applications alongside Accel-KKR, and their investment alongside Draper Esprit in a $10 Series C investment in Endomagnetics, acting for Micrima on their £4.2m raise from Technology Venture Partners, Angel Co-Fund and others, and advising Reach Robotics on their $7.5m Series A round.

Jon also holds a MSc in Entrepreneurship with Distinction from Bristol University, is the author of Business Law for the Entrepreneur, and serves as a member of the Advisory Board to Engine Shed, Bristol’s innovation centre.


Henry Whorwood leads Beauhurst’s Consultancy team. He is an expert on early-stage business finance and has worked on briefs for clients including the British Business Bank, Penningtons Manches, Syndicate Room, Innovate UK and HM Treasury. Henry regularly gives presentations on market trends at events around the country. He studied Classics at the University of Oxford.

Henry  will present the latest data on scaleups based in and around Bristol and will discuss the role that the right kind of finance can in play in their growth journey.
